Chin Weak Chin & Jaw

In chin implant surgeries, the planes of your face are changed with specially-formed, biocompatible implants. With a chin implant, or mentoplasty, your chin is augmented with a small silicon implant. This surgery is recommended by Dr. Rahban for approximately 30% of his rhinoplasty patients. The additional surgery, performed with a tiny incision and rapid healing, seems minor – but it can make all the difference in ensuring that your appearance change is exactly the change that you want.

What is a weak jaw?

A weak jaw is a common complaint among both men and women. It occurs when an individual suffers from a receding chin – or a chin that is small, short and slopes backward. For men, this can contribute to a less masculine appearance. For women, it can cause the nose to appear too large and that they are over weight. In both genders, a weak chin affects facial proportions that are considered to be inherently and universally attractive.

The anatomy of a weak jaw and receding chin

A double chin is far more than the simple accumulation of volume in the neck area. Upon closer inspection, the following characteristics can often be identified:

  • A lack of definition between the neck and chin
  • A chin that is short, narrow and small
  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • A poorly defined jawline

The importance of a strong chin

Many people don’t realize how much of the face is impacted by the shape, size and prominence of the chin. By fixing a receding chin, Dr. Rahban can simultaneously create a:

Defined jawline

TA receding chin can obscure a slender and elegant jawline, creating a rounded facial appearance. By sculpting a stronger chin, Dr. Rahban can establish a more refined transition between the neck and jaw.

Balanced profile

When the chin is too small or recedes, the side profile becomes unbalanced. The chin isn’t as prominent as the rest of the facial features, so something appears off. By inserting an implant, Dr. Rahban can restore attractive and harmonious proportions.

Smaller nose

While it’s true that a chin implant can’t change the core shape of your nose, it can make it appear much smaller. In many cases, the nose simply appears too large because the chin is too small. By increasing the prominence of the chin, the nose suddenly fits in more with the remaining facial features.

How to address a weak jaw and receding chin

To fix a weak jawline, steps must be taken to increase the prominence of the chin, while also removing unwanted volume that may be obscuring your underlying bone structure. In many cases, Dr. Rahban will accomplish this through a blend of procedures, including a chin augmentation, a neck lift and/or submental liposuction.

If your weak jaw is exclusively caused by a receding chin, a chin implant is likely the only procedure that you will need. To perform this surgery, Dr. Rahban will make a small incision beneath your chin. Through that opening, he will form a “pocket” and insert a silicone implant that is specially sized and shaped to create a more defined and balanced jaw.

If stubborn submental fullness (or a double chin) is also contributing to your weak jaw, delicate neck liposuction may help to further refine the area. And finally, if loose and sagging neck skin plays a role, Dr. Rahban may recommend a lift to fully contour your face and neck.
