Fat Transfer to Chin
Facial fat transfer involves removing excess fat from an area of the body and injecting it around the chin to enhance the smoothness and sharpness of the jawline. It’s a terrific, minimally-invasive way to augment the areas around a chin or chin augmentation to make for a seamless transition between the chin and the jaw. While some surgeons may recommend fat to enhance the chin, Dr. Rahban does not use the fat for the chin but rather surrounding the chin. In order to enhance the chin you need to enhance the bone—this is why an implant is ideal.
- A contoured jawline
- A smooth transition between the chin and the surrounding jaw
- Longer results when compared to dermal fillers
- A natural procedure with very minimal risks
- A quick recovery period
What to expect during your procedure
Your fat transfer procedure will involve three important steps: removing the fat, preparing the fat and injecting the fat.
The first step, fat removal, will be accomplished via gentle, low-suction liposuction. During this process, Dr. Rahban will extract a small amount of excess fat from a donor site anywhere on the body that features excess volume. For many patients, the fat needed for the procedure is taken from the hips, abdomen, or thighs. Low-suction liposuction techniques are used to avoid damaging the fat cells and ensure that they are in optimal condition for the transfer.
The second step of the procedure involves isolating and preparing the fat cells to be injected around the chin region. To accomplish this, Dr. Rahban will spin the extracted fat at high speeds in a centrifuge to isolate the fat cells from any liquid that is also collected during liposuction. From there, he will separate and cleanse the whole, undamaged fat cells to prepare them the procedure.
The final step of your fat transfer will involve injecting the isolated fat cells into your chin region and jaw area to sculpt a new and enhanced contour. Dr. Rahban will strategically space your injections at varying depths and locations to create the precise improvements you need.
In many cases, Dr. Rahban will combine your chin fat transfer with complementary procedures to achieve a comprehensive transformation. For example, a fat transfer performed in conjunction with a neck lift or submental liposuction can enhance the entire lower face and neck area, creating a chiseled and more youthful overall look.
Once your fat transfer is complete, you will likely experience some swelling and mild bruising at both the donor site and in the chin and jaw area. Fortunately, these effects should subside within a few days. Many of our patients report that their postoperative pain is minimal and easily managed with the medication that Dr. Rahban prescribes.
Compared to other cosmetic procedures, the overall recovery period associated with a fat transfer is quite short. In fact, most of our patients are able to return to work and their normal daily routines within a day or two. In addition, the results of your fat transfer will be apparent immediately and should continue to improve once the swelling has disappeared.
