Initial Stage – The First 24-48 Hours
Swelling and bruising are at their peak during this time. You may also notice dryness, tightness, and tenderness in the treated areas. Use your prescribed pain medications and cold compresses to help alleviate soreness. Keep your head elevated while you sleep, and avoid all unnecessary strain on the eyes.
Days 3-5
During this period, puffiness and discoloration are beginning to lighten slightly. You should continue to avoid strenuous exercise and keep from straining your eyes. You can take gentle walks, however, to improve circulation and boost your overall mood.
First Week
If your sutures were non-dissolvable, they will be removed during the first week. Most patients note a significant reduction in swelling and discoloration after around 7 days. However, some dryness or sensitivity to light may linger. Continue to steer clear of heavy lifting, bending, exercise, and rubbing the eyes.
Second Week
Many patients find they can resume being social at this time and enjoy light activities. Mild puffiness in the upper face may still be present. If approved by Dr. Rahban, you can use cosmetics to conceal any remaining redness or bruising. Keep limiting your screen time to avoid straining your eyes.
Weeks 3-4
During this phase of recovery, you will start seeing your cosmetic results, which will come as a welcome improvement after weeks of swelling and bruising. You may still experience mild itching or a feeling of tightness in the upper face. You can start reintroducing low-impact exercise with caution. When outdoors, continue to wear sunglasses.
Two Months Post-Op and Beyond
With almost all swelling dissipated, you will enjoy your final cosmetic result. Your incision lines continue to soften and fade into the skin’s natural hues. With Dr. Rahban’s approval, you can resume your normal exercise regimen.
